About
the man....
Hugh Harrison was born and raised in Hamilton, Canada and studied
English, Drama and Fine Arts at the University of Guelph.
Over the years, Hugh has successfully demonstrated his numerous
talents in a wide range of creative endeavours.
He has produced and presented a regular commercial radio program;
wrote, produced and presented a weekly current affairs show for
television; and scripted six episodes of a dramatic tv series.
In the world of advertising, Hugh has worked with international
agencies like McCann-Erickson, O&M, Saatchi & Saatchi and FCB,
as a copywriter, art director, agency producer, creative director and
general manager.
He has been a film director and producer; a music composer
and producer (three of his compositions were performed by the New York
Philharmonic and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra); and a writer and producer
of exhibitions and special events (including Singapore's 25th Jubilee
Spectacular).
He has opened and operated several restaurants and jazz clubs;
performed as a professional musician (his band was once the warmup
act for Willie Dixon's All-Stars); scripted and helped design interactive
discovery centres; renovated and re-opened a 1200-seat theatre
for live performance and cinema; penned a biweekly cartoon strip
for a popular newspaper; and most recently, he has reawakened his dormant
talents as an illustrator and graphic designer.
And, as if this isn't enough, Hugh has managed to find time to
rebuild old motorcycles, earn a pilot's licence (he taught himself to
paraglide), become a qualified sky diver and scuba diver, learn as many
as nine languages, and travel the world overland. |

About
the web site by Hugh Harrison
(Please note: This website was created 12 years ago and has not been updated.)
Recently, as I found myself spending increasingly
more time in Phuket, I began doing something which I now realize I have
neglected for far too long.
I started doing art again.
Actually painting, sketching, sculpting...things
I probably haven't done since university as most of my creative activities
have been more writing, music and film oriented over the past 20 plus
years.
Well, one thing led to another and, before I knew
it, a number of local businesses - hotels and restaurants mostly - asked
me if I would do some design work for them.
In effect, I became one-man agency, providing illustrations,
designs and, of course, copy, for ads, brochures, posters, packaging,
premium items, you name it, for a growing list of clients.
This web site is an exhibition of some of that
work.
(It is not a reflection of the high-priced,
high-profile campaigns that've consumed my energy over the years as a
copywriter and Creative Director in the world of international advertising.
I'm working on another site to display that work.)*
Ironically, while I've always been pretty good
at judging the quality of other artists' work - I was even a judge for
the Singapore advertising awards some years ago - I don't have a clue
as to how my own creations stack up. So, feel free to pass on any constructive
comments you might have.
In the meantime, thanks for taking the time to
read this. I hope you enjoy the work I'm presenting here. And, if there's
anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate to contact me.
